REPEAT OFFENDERS

The majority of offenders were proceeded against by police only once during 2012-13 for all selected states and territories. The Northern Territory and Queensland had the highest proportion of the offender population who were proceeded against by police on two or more separate occasions during 2012-13, with 30% and 29% respectively. The state or territory with the lowest proportion of repeat offenders was South Australia (14%). Queensland had the highest proportion of offenders who were proceeded against five times or more during the reference period (4%). (Table 13)

Data on the number of proceedings that police initiated against offenders during the reference period are not available for Western Australia (refer to paragraph 63 of the Explanatory Notes). As such, no repeat offender data are published for Western Australia, and national totals cannot be produced.
